Energy partnerships
Austrian energy partnerships with countries in Central and Eastern Europe
The Austrian energy partnerships with Central and Eastern European countries, some of which were initiated by the federal government in the early 1990s, are a successful example of how such a basis can be established and cooperation deepened.
The energy partnerships are coordinated by the Austrian Energy Agency on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism.
There are currently energy partnerships with:
- Bulgaria
- Romania
- Slovak Republic
- Czech Republic
- Ukraine
- Belarus
The thematic content of the cooperation focuses on:
- Sustainable, ecologically compatible and energy-efficient energy supply systems
- Efficient technologies for generating electrical energy (especially combined heat and power)
- Use of renewable energy sources (biomass, biogas, solar energy, hydropower and wind power)
- Consumer-side energy efficiency measures (especially in the area of electricity consumption)
Cooperation with the partner countries takes place on 3 levels within the framework of the energy partnerships:
- Information and networking activities
- Capacity building and policy advice
- Demonstration projects
