DiBiCoo
DiBiCoo - Digital Global Biogas Cooperation
The DiBiCoo project is part of the European Commission's "Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy" initiative under the H2020 research and innovation program. It makes a significant contribution to strengthening Europe as a business location and reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy production worldwide, while increasing the proportion of renewable energy in energy systems. In addition, the project makes an important contribution to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7: "Affordable and clean energy".
To this end, the project supports the European biogas / biomethane industry to gain a foothold in export markets in developing and emerging countries and to stimulate the demand for know-how and sustainable biogas / biomethane technologies from Europe. This will be achieved through the development and application of innovative digital support tools based on artificial intelligence, networking meetings, extensive knowledge transfer and capacity building as well as the development of demo projects up to the investment phase.
Sales markets and target countries
DiBiCoo thus facilitates the diversification of the European industry's sales markets and increases the use of biogas technologies in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The destination countries (importing countries) are Argentina, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia and South Africa. These countries were selected due to the high market potential for biogas production as well as the favorable regulatory environment and support programs and require high-quality technologies that are adapted to local conditions. The project addresses two main challenges in developing and emerging countries. On the one hand, the management and treatment of organic waste and, on the other hand, the increasing demand for energy. DiBiCoo therefore promotes technologies and concepts for the collection and processing of organic waste (e.g. organic waste, food waste, agricultural waste, food leftovers) as well as biogas technologies (anaerobic digestion and small-scale gasification) and their energetic use (e.g. household sector, cogeneration, process heat, transport) . In this way, the project contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the share of renewable energy in the regional energy system.
Budget and partners
The project, which has a budget of 3 million euros, is being implemented by an international consortium led by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. Other European partners include in Germany: WIP Renewable Energies GmbH & Co. KG and the German Biogas Association, in Austria: ARGE Kompost & Biogas and the Austrian Energy Agency, in Belgium: European Biogas Association and in Latvia: Latvia Life Science University. The following importing countries and partner institutions are involved: Argentina (Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria), Ethiopia (Iceaddis IT Consultancy PLC), Ghana (Institute for Sustainable Energy and Environmental Solutions), Indonesia (Inisiasi Pengkajian Resiliensi - Resilience Development Initiative) and South Africa (GreenCape and Selectra CC).
This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No 857804 (DiBiCoo - Digital Global Biogas Cooperation).
